Valuable synergy opportunities between pharmaceutics and systems development
The annual symposium of the pharmaceutical industry association in Italy (AFI: Associazione Farmaceutici Industria) serves the purpose of exchange of scientific experiences and, among pharmacists and doctors, is one of the most highly regarded conferences in Europe. More than 500 participants are expected again this year. Gerresheimer can count on a high level of attention: "We have been attending for years and had very positive experiences. There are valuable synergy opportunities between pharmaceutics and system development and these should be exploited to the full in the interest of patients and medical practitioners", says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing for the Gerresheimer Group.
In the host country Gerresheimer has a base through its subsidiary Kimble Italiana. From Pisa it supplies not only fellow European subsidiaries but also many external manufacturers in Europe and around the world with high-quality tubular glass. Contributions to the presentation in Rimini are also made on behalf of the glassPackaging Division by the Gerresheimer subsidiaries Spessart Glas, Tettauer Glashüttenwerke and Wisthoff (Germany) as well as Polfa Tubular Packaging (Poland). The pharmaSystems Division is represented by its German-based competence centre Bünder Glas and by Polfa Pharma Systems.
The international Group enjoys a reputation of particularly multi-facetted and innovative resourcefulness. Its glassPackaging products range from cartridges and ampoules to vials, bottles and jars of every kind. In the pharmaSystems Division the key focus is on integrated system approaches, starting with prefillable syringes in the brand families RTF® (Ready to Fill) and Readyject®. Overall, the systems range covers everything from tamper-evident dropper bottles and ergonomically designed applicators to new packaging, dosage and application combinations, for example in the field of dehydrated medicines. The range of glass from Gerresheimer includes types I, II and III, covers all categories of tubular and container glass, and is complemented by state-of-the-art processes for finishing and interior tempering. In addition, the Group uses plastic for certain system forms and for accessory products. In a nutshell, the small special presentation in Rimini highlights the latest developments right across the wide range of requirements.
Sterile and non-sterile all-glass syringes are the subject of a highly-informative presentation entitled "News on Prefillable Syringes" to be delivered by the Bünder systems expert Dr. Thomas Schönknecht. He will report on critical advances made by the system developers in the Gerresheimer competence centre to achieve technical optimisation in terms of delivery and safety, particularly in the accessories field. Details about all the new developments can be found on the Gerresheimer website at www.gerresheimer.com.
