Gerresheimer at CPhI India: innovative solutions for the pharma industry

Gerresheimer is presenting two highlights to the Indian and international public at the CPhI from November 30 to December 2, 2011. The first is its famous RTF syringe system and the second is the multilayer plastic vial which recently won the German Packaging Award. Fair visitors can find Gerresheimer in the Bombay Exhibition Center, Hall 10 at Booth V10.

This is Gerresheimer’s very first time as a CPhI India exhibitor because it only opened a subsidiary in Mumbai one year ago, in fall 2010, so that it could expand its marketing operations and improve local customer advisory and technical services.

Gerresheimer would particularly like to draw the attention of existing and potential customers to two flagship products.

Syringe accessories for enhanced safety and user friendliness

Gerresheimer is global technology leader for sterile RTF® (ready-to-fill) glass syringes. Most pharma companies today prefer to purchase pre-fillable syringes as ready-to-fill rather than bulk products.

System safety and user friendliness are criteria which are becoming increasingly important in syringe systems today. Gerresheimer accessories reliably meet these criteria. One good example is the TELC® (Temper Evident Luer Lock Closure), a unique patented Luer Lock closure. It combines the standard functions of a conventional Luer Lock syringe and tip cap with an additional tamper-evident function. Gerresheimer has patented this system and holds exclusive rights to its production, marketing and distribution. The TELC® system is available around the world without restrictions.

The Thermoplastic Elastomer Rigid Needle Shield (TERNS) protects the needle against deformation before use, keeps it sharp and reduces the risk of puncture injuries.

Multilayer vials for valuable biotech products

The trend of biotech pharmaceuticals demands new packaging concepts. Gerresheimer developed new multilayer vials with a unique three-layer structure in response to this trend. They are the first ever vials to sandwich a polyamide layer between two COP layers. This combination improves the vial’s oxygen barrier effectiveness to 40 times that of conventional COP monolayer vials. The vial’s unprecedented stability is due to the extraordinary break resistance of the triple-layer structure. The COP contact surface also improves the stability of the highly sensitive medications and reduces interactions between the medication and packaging to the minimum. “Genuine progress in services to health", said the jury that awarded the German Packaging Award to this product.

Gerresheimer is additionally exhibiting its portfolio of high quality tubular glass vials, ampoules and cartridges as well as injection, infusion and transfusion bottles plus dropper and tablet bottles of various types, shapes and sizes at CPhI.
