Chamber of Industry & Commerce pays tribute to Uwe W. Zipfel for honorary activities

Düsseldorf, June 21, 2013 – Uwe W. Zipfel has received a tribute after 10 years as honorary member of the Oberfranken Bayreuth Chamber of Industry & Commerce’s “Metalworking Foreman“ examinations board. Zipfel began his career in 1994 at Gerresheimer.

He has been a member of the Metalworking Foreman examination board since 2001. He and the other members ensure that the foreman’s examinations are properly prepared and implemented and that the correct terminology is used. He mainly checks and corrects the questions at weekends.

Uwe W. Zipfel learned his occupation ‘from scratch‘. In 1982 he started an apprenticeship as a shop fitter. He then gained certification as Metalworking Foreman in 1989 and a degree in Technical Business Administration in 2005 from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. At the same time, he studied for certification as Industrial Safety Officer.
In 1994, at the age of 29, the Metalworking Foreman began his career at Gerresheimer as a member of the operational maintenance team. In 2001 he moved to the hot end and in 2008 to quality assurance. For five years now, Uwe W. Zipfel has been responsible for industrial safety, reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager.

“Every year we produce around 620 million glass containers for the cosmetics industry in Tettau. Modern industrial safety procedures help us to be a successful company because, today, they are more than just a means of preventing accidents at work,“ said Uwe W. Zipfel about his job, adding that modern-day industrial safety also involves preventing absences from work and fluctuation, as well as increasing quality and lowering the reject rate.

Uwe W. Zipfel is committed to training because of the ‘encouragement and support‘ he received earlier on in his career. He advises people who are interested in an apprenticeship to obtain as much information as possible about the company before they apply.
Summing up after three decades with the company, Uwe W. Zipfel commented, “Whatever apprenticeship you do, the most important thing is that you feel at home in the company because everybody needs recognition and trust to perform at their best.”
