Almost all medications that you can buy in a pharmacy are packaged in bottles and jars made of glass or plastic. Not a lot of people know that many of the bottles, jars and drug delivery systems containing headache tablets, cough medicine, eye drops and asthma powder are manufactured at one of the Gerresheimer production facilities.

The employees at Gerresheimer manufacture primary
packaging products for the pharmaceuticals industry. These packaging products come into direct contact with the medications. To ensure that the packaging is reliable and safe it has to be manufactured in accordance with very stringent safety and quality standards. Gerresheimer wouldn’t be able to do this without an adequate number of skilled employees who have an expert knowledge of glass and plastic.

“We always encourage and support our own young employees to move up the career ladder within our organization. The majority of our apprentices are offered contracts of employment when they complete their apprenticeship and some of them have impressive career track records,” said Thomas Perlitz, HR Director at Gerresheimer in Düsseldorf.

Gerresheimer currently has around 200 apprentices
at eight training establishments in Germany. Applications are still being accepted at most of these training establishments for the 2014 intake.

Gerresheimer Regensburg – the plastics experts
High quality plastic products such as inhalers or insulin pens are manufactured at the German production facilities in Regensburg, Pfreimd and Wackersdorf. There are 30 new apprentice places in total, including two places for students combining a plastics technology degree course with an apprenticeship.

Gerresheimer Bünde - the syringe specialists
Some 800 staff manufacture glass syringes for the pharmaceutical industry at the German production facility in Bünde. The syringes are used for applications such as heparin injections or influenza vaccinations. There are already two industrial business management apprentices for 2014. Applications are welcome for four other apprenticeships in the occupations of industrial mechanic, electronics technician and warehouse logistics management assistant.

Gerresheimer Essen, Lohr and Tettau – traditional molded glass competence
All of Gerresheimer’s German molded glass production facilities are tradition-steeped establishments. The Essen facility in the Ruhr region, the Lohr facility on the river Main and the Tettau facility in Upper Franconia have 1000 employees and manufacture over two billion molded glass products every year. Their customers include reputed German and international companies in the pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetics industries. Lohr’s 2014 apprentice program is already full. Gerresheimer is currently looking for a total of 16 apprentices for its Essen and Tettau sites in 2014.

Wertheim – ampoules
Wertheim is a southern-German business center and the largest manufacturing location in the Heilbronn-Franconia region. Gerresheimer Wertheim manufactures ampoules for liquid medications and premium cosmetics from tubular glass. Gerresheimer Wertheim currently has two mechatronics fitters and is planning to offer another two apprenticeships in 2015.
