Gerresheimer offers apprenticeships at eight German sites

Düsseldorf, August 17, 2015 - The plants in Bünde, Essen, Lohr, Pfreimd, Regensburg, Tettau, Wackersdorf and Wertheim provide apprenticeships in over 20 occupations. The spectrum extends from Industrial Business Management Assistant to sandwich degree courses leading to a BEng in mechatronics.

“Our apprenticeships are practical, team-oriented and geared to meeting our internal requirements of skilled employees. This means we offer our apprentices full-time positions when they have completed their apprenticeship programs,” said Thomas Perlitz, Global Senior Vice President at Gerresheimer in Düsseldorf, adding that almost 100 percent of the apprentices actually end up working for the company year after year.

Gerresheimer currently has around 180 apprentices at eight training establishments in Germany. Around 50 of them will complete their apprenticeships and start out on their careers this year.

“The experienced members of staff are happy to pass on their knowledge,“ said Thomas Salenbacher, who completed his apprenticeship as Industrial Engineering Electronics Technician at Gerresheimer Tettau this year with the highest score in the Kronach Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s examination.

Gerresheimer Regensburg – the plastics experts

The Medical Systems Division has more than 3400 employees and is the Gerresheimer Group’s largest division. High quality plastic products such as inhalers or insulin pens are manufactured at the German production facilities in Regensburg, Pfreimd and Wackersdorf. When the new intake of 21 apprentices arrive on 1 September there will be a total of 87 apprentices and 16 sandwich degree students at Gerresheimer Regensburg, including the three new students who started their courses this July.

Gerresheimer Bünde - the syringe specialists

Some 800 staff manufacture glass syringes for the pharmaceutical industry at the German production facility in Bünde. The syringes are used for applications such as heparin injections or influenza vaccinations. The four new apprentices taken on this year will join the 19 existing apprentices and students at Gerresheimer Bünde.

Gerresheimer Essen, Lohr, Tettau and Wertheim – traditional glass competence

All of Gerresheimer’s German glass production facilities are tradition-steeped establishments. The plants in Essen, Lohr and Tettau have a total of around 1000 employees who manufacture over 3.5 billion glass containers every year. Gerresheimer Wertheim manufactures high quality ampoules for well-known German and international companies in the pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetics industries. Most of the four sites’ 59 apprentices are training for technical occupations in the glass manufacturing industry. 21 new apprentices will be joining them in September.

Promotion and support

Gerresheimer is very committed to training young employees. The apprenticeship programs always focus on the development aspect. They include practical training from experienced colleagues plus the acquisition of technical and commercial background knowledge at vocational school or at university if the apprenticeship is combined with a degree program. Most apprenticeships are available at Gerresheimer’s establishments in Germany.
