Pfreimd, April 26, 2012. 40 girls from secondary schools in Pfreimd, Nabburg, Schwandorf, Amberg and Vohenstrauss had the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of work at Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH in Pfreimd and obtain information about a range of technical apprenticeships on this year’s Girls’ Day.

Girls’ Day is a German-wide careers orientation project that helps schoolgirls and young women throughout Germany to find out about a range of technical occupations and encourage them to consider a career in them. Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH participated again this year, opening the doors of its production facility in Pfreimd to schoolgirls from secondary schools in Pfreimd, Nabburg, Schwandorf, Amberg and Vohenstrauss. “We want to encourage more girls to consider technical occupations and Girls’ Day is the perfect platform for us to do this,” said Olaf Zander, HR Director at Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH, explaining why the company participates in the project. “Since we began holding a Girls‘ Day in 2002 we have had three girls join us as technical apprentices.

This year the company provided another interesting program for the girls. First of all Carmen Kullmann (Training Officer at Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH) provided the visitors with information about the company and the apprenticeships it offers. Then the technical trainees at the Pfreimd plant presented apprenticeships such as mechatronics fitter, electronics technician, toolmaker, industrial mechanic, plastics and rubber process engineer and technical product designer. They also had the opportunity to take a look at the practical aspects of these professions. In a guided tour, the girls discovered just how interesting and exciting an apprenticeship in a technical occupation can be. They tried their hand at a filing workpiece at one of the workbenches. Hopefully it wasn't the last visit to Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH for one of them because the company held a prize draw for the winner’s chosen apprenticeship at the Girls’ Day event. The event concluded after a questions and discussion round with the works council and trainers.

Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH is very committed to its apprenticeship program. That’s why it is also holding an “Apprentice Day“ at its Technical Competence Center in Wackersdorf on June 30, 2012. Young people who are interested in an apprenticeship at the company are all welcome to come along to Apprentice Day.
