Open Day at Gerresheimer Regensburg

Düsseldorf/Regensburg, July 2012 – On June 30, 2012 Gerresheimer Regensburg offered schoolchildren the opportunity to obtain information about the company’s apprenticeship programs at the Technical Competence Center in Wackersdorf, which was open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Training Day held by Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH on June 30 was the second event of its kind. “We initiated the event last year and the response was so positive that we decided to give schoolchildren another opportunity this year to obtain information about our apprenticeship programs,” said Manfred Baumann, CTO of Gerresheimer, at the open day. The event was a great opportunity for people interested in finding out more about apprenticeships as plastics and rubber processing engineer, toolmaker, mechatronics fitter and electronics technician, or sandwich degree courses in mechatronics and plastics engineering and the other apprenticeships.

A welcome speech by Axel Süss, HR Director at Gerresheimer Regensburg, was followed by a presentation by Carmen Kullmann, Training Officer and the company’s young apprentices and sandwich degree course students. Professor J. Hummich of the Amberg-Weiden University then provided more detailed information about the plastics engineering degree course at the Amberg-Weiden University. “The degree course curriculum provides students with plastics engineering and processing competence supported by extensive practical experience,“ emphasized Professor Hummich.

Finally, Joachim Hanisch, Deputy District Administrator/Member of the Regional Parliament, praised the Training Day concept and its implementation by the apprentices. “With eleven apprenticeships and around 100 apprentices in the Upper Palatinate region of Germany, Gerresheimer has a very positive reputation for the excellent quality of its apprenticeships and the scope of its apprenticeship program,” praised Joachim Hanisch. “This reputation provides reassurance and future career guidance to school leavers and their parents.”

The school kids enjoyed the interesting presentations and the opportunity to talk to Gerresheimer Regensburg apprentices. Information stands were set up for each apprenticeship providing information about the apprenticeship schemes and the requirements that potential applicants have to meet. They were manned throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A guided tour of the Training Center in Wackersdorf was supplemented by an opportunity to talk to trainees and trainers and try out some of the plastic processing activities.

Some of the lucky Training Day visitors didn’t just take valuable information home with them, but also a fabulous prize because there was a prize draw with prizes such as two FC Bayern München home match tickets, including coach travel to the match, a digital camera and an iPhone. The prizes also included a first 'career opportunity’ and several ’taster’ internships.
