Düsseldorf/Regensburg, April 13, 2015. Gerresheimer‘s Training Center in Wackersdorf is hosting an Open Day event for school leavers between 10 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. on May 9. It will be providing them with information about apprenticeships and sandwich degree courses (combined degree and vocational training). The company’s special glass and plastic products contribute to health and well-being. Gerresheimer’s prodution facilities in Wackersdorf and Pfreimd develop and manufacture insulin pens, inhalers and other products for the pharmaceutical industry. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to chat to current apprentices at the Open Day, plus guided tours of the company’s training center and tool shop.

This is the fifth Gerresheimer Open Day. The motto is GRe@t (Gerresheimer Regensburg @pprenticeships and training programs) and the company will be presenting its portfolio of technical and commercial apprenticeships, as well as sandwich degree courses in plastics technology and medical technology. Participants will get a guided tour of the tool shop, the Technical Competence Center and the Training Centre, and have the opportunity to try out simple work processes for themselves. The current Gerresheimer apprentices are supporting the event by setting up information stands covering each of the apprenticeship programs. They will be at the stands throughout the event, chatting to visitors about the daily routine of being an apprentice, the opportunities that are available to them afterwards and entry requirements for the apprenticeship programs. The young employees’/ apprentices’ representative and the works council will be providing further information about the special aspects of training at Gerresheimer.

This year's Open Day is particularly geared to potential sandwich degree course students and undergraduates who are interested in work experience at Gerresheimer or would like to write their dissertation at the company. Members of staff from the OTH Amberg-Weiden University and Regensburg University, which are Gerresheimer's partners, will be on hand to answer any questions about bachelor or master’s courses and dissertations.

The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a presentation of the company and its trainers. At 10.40 a.m. the Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH apprentices will be giving an interview on apprenticeship programs and sandwich degree courses. Then, at 11.30 a.m., Dr. Bernhard Schmitt (Technology Manager Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH) will be talking about the options available for students to do work experience or write their dissertations at Gerresheimer. The Open Day  will finish up with a presentation about the applicant selection process by Carmen Kullmann (Training Officer at Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH).

There are also prizes to be won again this year. A prize draw will be held at the event with a smartphone, two tickets for an FC Bayern home match, including coach trip to the venue, and five individual Funtickets from Prokart Raceland going to the lucky winners. Reflecting the nature of the event, Gerresheimer has also included several ‘taster’ internships among the prizes.
