Gerresheimer Essen staff raise funds for the Fürstin-Franziska-Christine Foundation in Essen

Düsseldorf/Essen, November 14, 2013 – The employees at Gerresheimer Essen raised a total of EUR 1680 at their summer fête for the Fürstin-Franziska-Christine Foundation (FFC Foundation). The money was handed over yesterday at a celebratory event held at the FFC Foundation’s headquarters in Essen-Steele.

The foundation was established by Abbess Franziska Christine von Pfalz-Sulzbach as an orphanage in 1764. In the centuries that followed it evolved into a modern aid organization for the young and the elderly. One very important aspect of the foundation's work is its Children in Need Romania Association (Förderverein für Kinder in Not – Rumänienhilfe e.V.)

“We’re absolutely delighted that your staff decided to raise funds for the foundation at their summer fête. It means more than mere financial support to us. It's confirmation that people appreciate the FFC Foundation‘s efforts to help children and young people, and it’s powerful motivation for us to continue these efforts in the future.“ Words of thanks spoken by Hans-Wilhelm Heidrich, the FFC Foundation's Director, at the celebratory event held at the foundation's headquarters to Gerresheimer Essen’s General Manager Dr. Jührgen Unruh, Sabine Strobl, Aimilia Matika, Marian Ferlic and Markus Rocholz, who organized the summer fête for their colleagues.

“I’m delighted that the staff at Gerresheimer followed my suggestion because the donation is going to an institution whose work makes a valuable contribution to Essen-Steele’s social community,” said Mayor Franz-Josef Britz, who recommended the FFC Foundation as recipient of the funds that were raised.

When it was announced that the funds would be donated to the FFC Foundation, one of Gerresheimer‘s glass process engineering apprentices, Jessika Schmidt (18), mentioned that the FFC Foundation had supported her for three years, helping her to learn to live independently. She’s really glad that the FFC Foundation is getting the funds, “Because it can then help lots more children and young people like me.”

The donated funds will be used to buy new software for the children and young adults’ PCs. Some of the funds will also be spent on individual children in need to pay for their monthly bus tickets or certain therapies.
