Director, Benefits

Job Description

This position is responsible for the development of strategic benefit programs that appeal to all generations within the organization, and supports the health system’s business objectives. The director of benefits is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization’s benefits programs, including health and welfare benefits, retirement benefits, and leave programs, ensuring that all programs are current and competitive with regards to trends, practices, and costs. This position is also responsible for maintaining compliance with all legal requirements of various employee benefit programs, and preparing and filing required legal reports.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in either Business or Economics; advanced degree preferred.
  • Notable accomplishments in Total Rewards Administration within a private sector environment, showing competency in non-wage compensation.   
  • Substantial experience in Benefits Administration at all stages of the Employment Life Cycle, from accession to termination.
  • Detailed knowledge of market-leading benefits administration tools to improve business performance and provide competitive insight.
  • Demonstrated ability to hear the Voice of the Customer and align feedback with company initiatives and goals
  • Displayed proficiency in navigating ambiguous environments, developing existing and new markets, and achieving profitable growth

Additional Information

  • Provides leadership and direction to evaluate, modify, and maintain a competitive benefits strategy that is aligned with Company objectives and the annual operating plan. 
  • Leads and drives the execution of benefit annual renewals and enrollment process, including involvement in all phases of renewal discussions, benefits communication, and change management plans.
  • Oversees a robust and effective communication plan for benefits programs such as health insurance plans, pension plans, 401(k), disability insurance, life insurance and other special employer-sponsored plans.
  • Manages vendor relationships and negotiates plan coverages, services, and costs with carriers and brokers; ensuring the administration, budgeting, and communication of benefits programs are well executed and contribute to a positive employee experience.
  • Confirms and enforces compliance with global and local requirements such as COBRA, GDPR, ACA, ERISA, and HIPAA and other regional, country, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Partners with the Finance team on any benefits-related matter to better understand business issues that require collaboration in order to improve current scenario and resolve concerns. 
  • Manages and oversees the hiring, training, professional development, and performance management of the United States Benefits team.
  • Work closely with brokers globally to evaluate and benchmark our benefits programs based on global industry trends and best practices to ensure competitiveness in market
  • Provide thought leadership, expertise, and guidance in the development of innovative wellness programs

 

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally no less than 25% per month.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and retirement plans.   
  • Ability to learn, understand, and apply the Gerresheimer Management System.
  • Capable of autonomous work in professional business environments.
