Head of Purchasing

Job Description

  • Production material purchasing based on production plan and purchase order requests.
  • Forward all orders to management for signature and afterwards to the supplier.
  • File to reconcile with receipts from the warehouse.  Match receipts with orders, forward to accounting for processing.
  • Receive and process invoices from certain suppliers.
  • Expedite purchase orders for backorders, late receipts, update PO’s and inform production.
  • Get quotes from suppliers for new projects.  Keep all records for Investments.
  • Place orders according to required approval.
  • Ordering production supplies weekly for warehouse.
  • Inform sales and purchasing international about price and lot size changes for production materials.
  • Negotiate terms with local suppliers, which are not handled by purchasing international.
  • Handle returns and claims to suppliers and negotiate reimbursements.
  • Rating certified suppliers annually.
  • Coordinate the procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment and supplies for the organization.
  • Perform price/cost analysis as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain effective business relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Manage the day to day relationship with external suppliers.
  • Work with vendors to obtain favorable pricing, and credit terms and integrates cost savings initiatives
  • Develop strategic relationships that drive value and competitive advantage.
  • Search for and maintain current vendor information.
  • Communicate major vendor/manufacturer changes to Senior Plant Director.
  • Address credit hold issues and inform appropriate parties of necessary actions.
  • Perform market research to keep pace with new products and industry news.
  • Manage inventory levels and forecasts data.
  • Monitors customer inventory demand and works with suppliers to reduce material and product variability.
  • Implement purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations with the assistance of the Senior Plant Director.
  • Develop purchasing best practices and strategies.
  • Proxy for Order Manager when needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • 10+ Years experience in Purchasing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical device manufacturing processes and experience working within manufacturing operations; broad working knowledge of manufacturing materials including plastics, polymers, injection molding, plastic extrusions.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and suppliers; fundamental mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Ability to make and keep commitments; realization of the results of commitments not kept on the organization; high energy, hard worker, gets things done and proactive.
  • APICS certification a plus
  • Knowledge of supplier management and procurement process
  • Experience in the execution of contracts and agreements
  • Experience in a lean manufacturing environment and knowledge of lean principles (Lean Practitioner a plus)
  • Previous working knowledge with BPCS
