Plant Manager

Job Description

Reports to TGCA Vice President of Operations and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the operations of the plant. The Plant Manager directs all functions of the plant: Manufacturing, Engineering, Logistics, Quality Control, and Finance.  The Plant Manager achieves financial, operating and personnel goals as set per the annual operating and strategic budget.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Plant Operation

Working in conjunction with Human Resources, is responsible for the hiring, development, appraisal and motivation of employees, to optimize their performance and develop their personal and professional growth.

Prepares and presents weekly and monthly reports on performance as requested by the Vice President of Operations.

Develop, review and approve objectives in all areas of the plant as part of annual operating and strategic budgets. Monitor plant performance on a regular basis to ensure goals are met.

Develops specific short-term and long-term actions and programs to support achieving budgeted targets (Financial and operational).

  • Drives Safety to plant floor by following and enforcing all Safety Rules and leading through example
  • Understands and communicates plans to ensure delivery of the highest quality of products and services.

 

Optimization of Plant Cost Structure

Utilize lean manufacturing principles to lead organization in identifying areas for cost improvement

Develops plans to optimize Plant costs with a focus on raw material,  plant  maintenance, hourly labor and salaried staff. Utilize cost control reports, cost estimates, manpower and facilities requirements to achieve overall cost targets. 

Foster relationship with other converting plants in order to review other plant methods to identify potential best practices   

Demonstrates strong leadership skills by providing clear direction and targets to subordinates and holds them accountable for reaching cost targets

 

Continuous Improvement through process development and Standardization

Utilize GMS Elements plus Continuous Improvement and Change Management techniques to create customer oriented production philosophy driven toward highest level of customer satisfaction

Develop focused actions to optimize production efficiencies by creating multi functional process improvement teams to identify and reduce process waste

Insure that equipment stays standardized as process improvements are made through robust roll out procedures and frequent process/equipment audits

Communicate to all employees importance of standardization in equipment and procedures and how it relates to customer satisfaction

 

Promote a culture of innovation in products and processes

Coordinates and collaborates with other departments of the Company and external suppliers in establishing and executing plant projects.

Utilize Project Management skills to organize activities to ensure project completion dates and budgets are achieved.

Create, direct and mentor project teams to work with internal and external resources on process/product development

 

Foster A Quality Culture Environment (Zero Defect) with focus on Customer Satisfaction

Lead efforts of organizations quality culture utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to develop “Zero Defect” mindset.

Encourage an environment to develop problem solving skills of all factory personnel

Ensure that quality/production problems are solved in a systematic way that will achieve sustainable results

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

 

  • B.S. Engineering, Business and/or Operations Management related field preferred.
  • A minimum of three years as Plant Manager in a manufacturing company, with the responsibilities of producing, purchasing, inventory control, production control, engineering, as well as shipping, receiving, and warehousing.
  • Experience in working with Union and/or Non-Union environment a plus
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, develop and motivate all personnel to balance staffing levels with profitability and growth.
  • Six Sigma black belt a plus
