Bünde, May 2, 2012 – The fourth Thursday of April was also dedicated to Girls‘ Day at Gerresheimer Bünde. Initiated in 2001, the event encourages schoolgirls from the fifth grade upwards to consider technical occupations in which women have always been underrepresented.

Gerresheimer Bünde GmbH invited interested schoolgirls to get a taster of working in occupations such as electronics technician, industrial mechanic and process engineer at its ninth Girls‘ Day event.

Nine girls came along to spend an interesting morning at Gerresheimer Bünde. After a company presentation and a safety briefing, the young visitors set out on a guided tour of the plant. They were even taken into a clean room. Wearing protective suits, gloves and hairnets, the girls were given a hands-on experience of what it is like to work in clean room clothing.

Then they visited various technical departments. In the metalworking shop they had the opportunity to use a caliper rule to measure different syringe dimensions. In the design office the technical draftsmen explained a CAD model to them. And in the electrical workshop the girls tried their hand at using a soldering iron to make a recording device that they took home as a memento afterwards.

It was a special opportunity for some of the girls whose parents work at the plant because they were able to see their parents' workplaces close-up. “It was a fantastic day,“ the girls agreed after the event. “It definitely made a change from school.“ One of the participants enjoyed it so much that she’d have liked to have stayed for longer. Now she’s decided to apply for an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships at Gerresheimer Bünde

This fall a new apprenticeship in warehouse logistics will be introduced. Applications for apprenticeships starting in August 2013 can be sent in from the end of the summer vacation to the end of this year.
