Gerresheimer Essen offers apprentices permanent positions

Düsseldorf, August 17, 2011 – Vocational training in an apprenticeship is often the first contact that German school leavers have with the world of work. For Gerresheimer Essen’s apprentices, it is also a stepping stone to a career in the company. The Essen plant, which has been manufacturing specialty glass containers for the medical, cosmetics and food industries since 1723, offered permanent positions to all apprentices who passed their examination again this year.

As a full-service partner for glass and plastics products and systems, the Gerresheimer Group has a unique positioning in the global pharma and healthcare industry. It offers a wide range of options for young individuals who are interested in joining the company at its Essen plant, such as degree sandwich courses and science and engineering apprenticeship programs. The comprehensive range of available apprenticeships includes toolmaker, industrial engineering electronics technician and glass process engineer.

Apprentices who have been offered permanent positions in Essen

David Guerreiro dos Santos, Robert Schunath, Marcus Germerodt and Pierre Blum (l-r) successfully completed their apprenticeship this year at the Essen plant and are now taking advantage of the opportunity to embark on a career with the Gerresheimer Group. The young men aged between 22 and 28 are working in production, product development and controlling. In these positions they will be supporting the some 380 Gerresheimer Essen employees on nine production lines who transform some 280 tons of glass into around three million bottles every day.

Robert Schunath chose Gerresheimer as his employer because of the company’s strong commitment to apprentice training and the excellent chances that the apprentices have of being offered a permanent position after completing their training program. His choice has paid off and he is now absolutely over the moon about being able to continue working for the company that trained him. This was also an important factor in David Guerreiro’s decision to train at Gerresheimer. “My father’s worked at Gerresheimer AG for many years and he’s happy here. I know that this company has a future and that its employees’ jobs are very secure.”

The young men look proud and pleased. They chose to stay at Gerresheimer for many different reasons. “I enjoy my work, I know my colleagues and there’s a great work climate here,” said Pierre Blum. Other decision factors included the interesting work routine, the further training opportunities that are available and the valuable personal support that career starters receive. Marcus Germerodt added that he has always liked how the people in his department work as a team and cooperate with other departments.

The newcomers are also very complimentary about Essen. “The city of Essen and the people who live here are cheerful and warm-hearted. I've made a lot of friends and I very much enjoy living here,” said Marcus Germerodt. Despite its size, the city has a comprehensive range of leisure facilities and a lively entertainment scene, plus all kinds of quiet places to relax. Marcus Germerodt enjoys living in Essen and has decided to spend the next few years here.
