Düsseldorf, October 14, 2018 – With a donation of EUR 3,000, Gerresheimer AG is supporting two interesting photo exhibitions put on by Förderkreises Industriepfad Düsseldorf e.V. (FKI), which shines a light on Düsseldorf’s economic history.

“It is important to us that Düsseldorf’s industrial history is not forgotten,” says Jens Kürten, Head of Communications at Gerresheimer AG, adding that the employees at the company headquarters are also interested in their employer's history.

“We are delighted that Gerresheimer is supporting our work,” says Franz Nawrath, Chairman of the FKI. “It is important to the FKI that the cultural significance of our industrial history is illustrated and recognized by making reference to the industrial company that is currently in operation too. Our industrial-cultural heritage is still important for our everyday reality – even if this is often subconsciously.”

The new exhibition, “Glas und Stahl” (Glass and steel) opens its doors on October 15. Alongside the glassworks exhibition, there will also be a show titled “Mehr als nur der Schreibtisch – Die Düsseldorfer Eisen- und Stahlindustrie in Bildern” (More than just a desk – the Düsseldorf iron and steel industry in pictures), which will exhibit historical photographs from Düsseldorf’s iron and steel industry, some of which have never been seen by the public before. The exhibition will be held at the Kulturbahnhof on Heyestraße in Gerresheim. Admission is free.

The first exhibition titled “Glashütte meets China” (Glassworks meets China), was held between July 1 and 22 and presented 40 historical photographs of the Gerresheimer glassworks from the Düsseldorf municipal archives. The photographs are contrasted with those of a glassworks in the Düsseldorf partner city of Chongqing, taken by photographer Bernhard Langerock between 2013 and 2014 as part of an artistic exchange.

Although there has not been a glassworks in Gerresheim for several years now, Gerresheimer AG continues to play an active role in Düsseldorf. The company headquarters is located in the Airport City at Düsseldorf Airport. It is from there that 35 factories throughout the world are managed. For many years, Gerresheimer AG has specialized in the production of drugs packaging made from glass and plastic, with a portfolio comprising insulin pens, inhalers, micro pumps, and more.
