“Germany is one of Georgia’s largest trade partners and a major contributor to job creation and investment in our state, as evidenced by companies like Gerresheimer whose production site in Peachtree City and current expansion employ hundreds of Georgians,” explained Governor Brian Kemp. “Today’s meeting further reinforced those ties and will help us promote growth and opportunity for years to come.”
"The expansion of our Peachtree City site is of great importance for the further growth of our medical device business in the USA," said Dietmar Siemssen, CEO of Gerresheimer AG. “We are pleased that, as in the past, we can count on the interest and support of the Governor and the State of Georgia in our expansion plans.”
Site expansion proceeding according to plan
At the Peachtree City site, Gerresheimer manufactures medical devices such as inhalers, components for infusion sets, microinjectors, test cards for microbiological tests and auto-injectors, which can be used, among other things, in the treatment of diabetes and obesity. The two-phase expansion of the site, which was announced in May 2024, is currently underway. Gerresheimer is investing a total of around EUR 166 million (USD 180 million) in the expansion of the site, tripling the production area. Around 320 skilled workers from the region are currently employed in Peachtree City – around 50 more than in May last year. In total, the expansion is expected to create up to 400 new professional jobs.
One of two Technical Competence Centers in the USA
The production site also benefits from the Gerresheimer Technical Competence Center (TCC) for Medical Systems established in 2009. In addition to the Glass Innovation and Technical Competence Center in Vineland, this is one of two Gerresheimer TCCs in the USA. In the Gerresheimer TCCs, engineers, technicians and skilled workers from a wide range of disciplines work on the development and industrialization of the production of pharmaceutical primary packaging and drug delivery systems, including customized solutions. The TCC in Peachtree City works closely with the TCC in Wackersdorf, Germany. Gerresheimer currently operates a total of six TCCs in Germany, Switzerland, the USA and China.
Economic relations between Georgia and Germany
Germany is the fourth largest export and import market for the State of Georgia, with more than USD 12.8 billion USD in total trade moving between Georgia and Germany in 2023. German companies have invested more than USD 3.9 billion in Georgia since 2010 through projects with state involvement. An estimated 650 German-owned facilities support approximately 42,000 jobs across Georgia.
