Innovation
In order to be sustainable, we need to actively accept responsibility for the environmental and social impact of our business. This means questioning the status quo and rethinking what we do. In this sense, we view sustainability and innovation as one and the same. We take a long, hard look at our internal processes, technologies, and the products and solutions we develop to improve them on an ongoing basis with regard to a variety of factors, including sustainability.
Example: Opal glass products
In 2024, opal glass was produced for the last time at our cosmetics site at the Moulded Glass plant in Momignies, Belgium. In order to be able to offer our customers the white appearance and additional benefits of soda-lime glass, spraying techniques are developed individually for each customer. The results look very similar to opal glass, but with the decisive advantage that there is an established recycling system.
Contributing to circular economy practices is an essential part of our EcoDesign principles. We do this by enabling recycling at the end-of-life, using PCR cullets in the production, and lightweighting our products. One of the most famous examples is the well-known NIVEA roll-on deodorant.
