Solutions for a sustainable future

Commitment, innovation, and teamwork are crucial to our success in the area of sustainability. We have developed a sustainability strategy that includes a number of ambitious targets. Over the course of 2024, we worked consistently on implementing these goals and systematically put them into practice. In doing so, we once again made groundbreaking decisions on various topics and processes, which led to measurable results and improvements.

compared to 2019

55%

Share of electricity from renewable sources

54%

Commitment

We have made a clear commitment to sustainability as one of our five strategic goals. The entire Company is committed to our strong sustainability policy, with its ambitious targets, measurable KPIs and clear deadlines, which we published at the end of 2020.

At Gerresheimer, seamlessly integrating our sustainability targets across the organization is key to bringing our sustainability policy to life.

Our commitment and our success have been recognized and honored by external, independent bodies. We received the EcoVadis Gold award once again this year, representing a milestone in the successful implementation of our sustainability strategy. We are proud of this recognition. We were also nominated for the German Sustainability Award. We view all of these honors and nominations and as clear signs that we are following the right path.

Innovation

In order to be sustainable, we need to actively accept responsibility for the environmental and social impact of our business. This means questioning the status quo and rethinking what we do. In this sense, we view sustainability and innovation as one and the same. We take a long, hard look at our internal processes, technologies, and the products and solutions we develop to improve them on an ongoing basis with regard to a variety of factors, including sustainability.

Example: Opal glass products

In 2024, opal glass was produced for the last time at our cosmetics site at the Moulded Glass plant in Momignies, Belgium. In order to be able to offer our customers the white appearance and additional benefits of soda-lime glass, spraying techniques are developed individually for each customer. The results look very similar to opal glass, but with the decisive advantage that there is an established recycling system.

Contributing to circular economy practices is an essential part of our EcoDesign principles. We do this by enabling recycling at the end-of-life, using PCR cullets in the production, and lightweighting our products. One of the most famous examples is the well-known NIVEA roll-on deodorant.
