Innovation is central to our business strategy and a key driver of sustainable growth. We invest in cutting-edge technologies around the world and create the necessary structures to encourage our employees to develop and implement creative ideas. Our culture of innovation enables us to continuously research and develop new solutions, particularly in the field of digital health. Our goal: innovative solutions that improve patients' lives and therapy results.

Unleashing the power of innovation

At Gerresheimer we question the status quo and work continuously on the further development of our products, processes and business models. For us, innovation is not an individual task - we rely on collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange. Our global innovation management team supports employees and specialist departments in generating and evaluating new ideas. We recognise not only the creation of innovative concepts, but also their successful translation into commercially viable products and services.

Our structured innovation process helps us identify promising approaches, develop them further and bring them to market. This ensures that new solutions are not only technologically feasible, but also commercially successful.

Every year we organise global internal and external innovation initiatives. For example, Innovation as a Service. The Innovation Management team supported numerous internal requests, for example for ideation workshops. In 2024, we continued our incubation programme with the two best concepts from our Hackathon 2023. Again, the aim was to turn ideas into marketable solutions.

In addition to these two internal initiatives, we also focused on Open Innovation. By collaborating with external experts, start-ups and research institutions, we have been able to accelerate access to new technologies and drive our innovation projects. These collaborations strengthen our position as an innovation leader and enable us to respond more quickly to the changing needs of our customers and markets.

Gx Inbeneo®

Created for home-use, the Gx Inbeneo® autoinjector enables easy, safe subcutaneous self-administration. With a pre-pressurized, cartridge-based design, the autoinjector can quickly and effectively deliver highly viscous biologic drugs. Thanks to our platform concept, the Gx Inbeneo® can be easily customized to different drug viscosities and fill volumes up to 3 ml. In 2024 Gerresheimer received a prestigious Red Dot Design Concept award for its Gx Inbeneo® autoinjector platform.

Lasix ONYU

Lasix ONYU is a combination product consisting of a novel high-concentration formulation of the diuretic furosemide and the Gerresheimer on-body drug delivery device. In December 2024 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted SQ Innovation Tentative Approval for Lasix ONYU for the home treatment of fluid overload in congestive heart failure. First products of Lasix ONYU are now expected to be available on the market by the end of 2025. The tentative approval underlines the market readiness of our on-body drug delivery device, which core technology is an innovative micropump that enables controlled, precise administration of a drug product according to a defined therapy regimen.

Gx® Cap - cross-linked closure solution for tablet containers

In 2024 we entered a partnership with the US digital health company Rx Cap.

With the help of a connected cap, which we distribute exclusively to pharmacies in the USA via our subsidiary Centor under the brand name Gx® Cap, pharmacies can monitor their patients' adherence to their medication. Using a cellular signal, the Gx® Cap reports to the cloud-based software platform when the prescription vial has been opened. Pharmacy staff can easily and quickly assess whether the medication has been taken as prescribed and remind the patient to take the medication by text message or phone call. Digital therapy support is becoming increasingly important in this area, not only through body-worn sensors and apps, but also through connected primary packaging.

Connected Packaging

With the new Gerresheimer Connected Packaging Solutions, packaging now gains further added value through unique QR codes (i.xQR) or NFC tags, which create a digital customer touchpoint. As a result, beauty brands can improve the customer experience and increase brand loyalty and sales, while gaining valuable insights into consumer behavior. By scanning products, consumers gain access to personalized information and recommendations, making their beauty routines more engaging and tailored to their needs. Gerresheimer Connected Packaging enables brands to run targeted promotions and reward campaigns directly through the product packaging. This innovative approach encourages customer loyalty and frequent brand engagement, ensuring that promotions and messages reach consumers precisely where and when they use the product.
