Job Description
The Cold End Mechanic will work closely with Journeyman Cold End Mechanics to learn the trade of a general electrician. They will perform a variety of tasks over a course of 8000 hours as an apprentice and attend school for 4 years to achieve Journeyman’s card.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoots electrical systems from 480Vac to 110BVac and 48Vdc to 5 Vdc.
- Checks and records instrumentation readings on critical plan equipment, including electrical, air gas, water and oil systems.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on electrical, air, gas, water and oil systems.
- Troubleshoots new and existing equipment.
- Monitor, inspect and operate systems to make necessary adjustments and repairs as required.
- Become highly knowledgeable in all aspects of plant operations.
- Communicates with other maintenance personnel, specialists, operators, and supervisors and maintains records including a detailed review of any problems that may have occurred; potential problem situations with equipment or systems; and any job changes coming up that may require maintenance to change setting or setup equipment.
- Perform an inspection, take readings, record information, analyze failures an return systems to operational status in a safe and efficient manner.
- Completes work orders and performs assigned repairs of a nature suitable for one person working alone or with assistance provided from other members of the shift or addition maintenance personnel.
- Makes necessary repairs , replacements, and adjustments to plant systems as required.
- In case of fire or other emergency, assist with plant evacuation and ensure alarm and sprinkler system valves are operational. Follows the plant shutdown procedures. Follow all Emergency Generator Procedures.
- Responsible for maintaining housekeeping and general upkeep of maintenance shop, all work areas, the compressor building and electrical switch gear areas.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma required. College degree in mechanical, electrical or mechatronic field preferred.
- Certificates from defect recognition and related processes a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands on supervisory experience preferably in glass manufacturing
- Knowledge of glass defects.
- Understanding of state-of-the-art electronic inspection, automated packaging equipment and conveyor systems.
- Ability to motivate, mentor and coach personnel and the ability to contribute to a team effort environment.
- Computer skills and knowledge to include MS Office, SAP and Lotus Notes.
- Strong organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate patience and have the ability to teach others
- Must be aggressive, resourceful and independent, while showing flexibility and open mindedness
