Ophthalmic plus bottle – an improvement in eye drops application
The application of eye drops is, and always has been, a challenge for the patient, especially for the elderly or people with limited mobility in their arms and fingers. Squeezing a small bottle in the fingers of an upraised hand while targeting the eyeball may be an impossible task for some. In societies with an increasing senior population, solutions that facilitate the application of ocular medication are highly desirable.
To meet the expectations of the market and keeping in mind demographic trends, Gerresheimer, in collaboration with Packsys, is developing an ophthalmic bottle that addresses such needs. The Ophthalmic plus bottle is designed so that the application of the drug occurs by pressing the bottom of the bottle, rather than by squeezing the walls as is the case with traditional systems. This innovative platform allows to reduce the force required to produce a drop by up to 60% for a 5ml PP bottle compared to a conventional design.
