Plant Director

Job Description

Reports to the TGA Vice President of Operations and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the activities of the operations function of the plant.  Responsible for the performance of all department functions: Manufacturing, Engineering, Logistics, Quality Control, and Financial Control.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and approves adequate plans for the control of planned outputs, budget spending, labor efficiency, material efficiency, engineering effectiveness, customer service, and order entry efficiency, along with human utilization.
  • Reviews performance against operating plans and standards.  Provides reports to subordinates on interpretation of results and approves changes in direction of plans.
  • Presents weekly and monthly reports on performance as requested by the Vice President of Operations and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Develops and presents to the Vice President and Chief Executive Officer matters requiring a decision.
  • Develops and recommends corporate operations policy within the Plant.
  • Defines and recommends objectives in each area of the Plant.  Develops specific short-term and long-term plans and programs, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates.
  • Reviews and approves cost control reports, cost estimates, and manpower and facilities requirements forecasts.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments of the Company in establishing and carrying out responsibilities.
  • Reviews and approves the setting of budgets for the Plant.
  • Reviews and approves Plants major projects involving major functional changes with the plant.
  • Develops plans for new areas of technology for the manufacturing functions along with sufficient planning for areas that support the mission of the Plant.
  • Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their personal and professional growth.
  • Responsible for the development of continuous improvement through elements of GMS and that apply best practices throughout the plant.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews and approves the implementation of manufacturing and organizational plans that support the Operations Master Plan.
  • Assists in establishing objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities.  Issues specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates and reviews objectives of the operations management.
  • Selects and maintains qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and recommends compensation for them.
  • Directs, monitors, and appraises the performance of units immediately reporting and provides the necessary coordination between activities.
  • Identifies training needs and initiates development of subordinates, recommends effective personnel action.
  • Maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility.
  • Keeps employees informed as to company/department plans and progress.
  • Consults with all segments of management responsible for policy or action. Ensures compliance with area of responsibility.  Makes recommendations for improving effectiveness of policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that duties, responsibilities, and authority and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
  • Cooperates externally with customers, vendors and other Gerresheimer facilities. Demonstrates behavior that meets Good Manufacturing Practices, Safety and Good Housekeeping requirements.
  • Wears safety glasses and hearing protection as required in designated areas.  Hair/Beard nets and lab coat as required in Pack Room.
  • Performs other duties as requested and/or required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. Engineering, Business and/or Operations Management related field.
  • A minimum of three years as Plant Manager in a manufacturing company, with the responsibilities of producing, purchasing, inventory control, production control, and engineering, as well as shipping, receiving, and warehousing.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate salary personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
