Purchasing Manager

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for the purchasing and storeroom function at the Chicago Heights facility which includes procurement of raw material, supplies, parts and utilities. This position is also responsible for contract and pricing negotiations, expediting orders, seeking best price/terms on orders, and ensuring correct inventory levels at all times.  Also enters purchase orders and assists with CAPEX activities. Organize the workloads of assigned staff, delegate responsibilities and supervise day-to day operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • ·Responsible for managing, coordinating, an efficient/effective purchase order process with consideration for total cost, quality, delivery and policy/procedure.
  • Handles day-to-day purchasing activities with suppliers.  Coordinates this process, when necessary, with other plants or Corporate. 
  • Responsible for issuing purchase order to procure commodities, supplies and services from supply resources.
  • Assists in strategic sourcing initiative and coordination of contractual issues, long-term supply agreements, annual contracts, frame contracts, etc.
  • Responsible for raw material and storeroom inventories, proper stocking levels and critical spare parts availability.  Identify and eliminate waste within the organization.
  • Ensure timely and accurate receipt of incoming materials and service. Expedite orders when necessary.
  • Ensure chemicals and flammables are stored according to OSHA/EPA standards.  Maintain SDS sheets and SDS program.
  • Ensure vendors meet expectations of quality and delivery.
  • Participate in year-end physical inventory.
  • Participate in month end close.

  

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Qualifications / Credentials: High School Diploma or Equivalent, College degree preferred
  • Prior work experience in purchasing/buyer position in a manufacturing environment, preferred in an ISO certified facility.
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write, and understand instructions in English – maintain logs and records
  • Demonstrate ability to perform arithmetical calculations
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizing skills
  • Demonstrate ability to use ERP systems such as SAP
  • Demonstrate ability to use Microsoft office suite
