Training Day at Gerresheimer Regensburg

The Technical Competence Center in Wackersdorf opened its doors to school leavers.

Regensburg, May 22, 2014. Gerresheimer Regensburg held its annual Open Day for school leavers on May 17, 2014. Interested young people were able to visit the plant between 10 am and 3 pm to find out about Gerresheimer’s diverse apprenticeship programs. They also had the opportunity to chat to current apprentices, and there were guided tours of the company’s training center and tool shop.

Gerresheimer’s “Open Day“ is now in its fourth year. “We’ve had such positive feedback about our information events in previous years that we decided to hold another one in 2014. It’s a great opportunity for local school leavers to check out Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH as a potential apprenticeship provider,“ explained HR Director Germany Axel Süss. We offer apprenticeships for plastic and rubber process engineers, toolmakers, mechatronics fitters and electricians, as well as a degree program in plastics technology combined with an apprenticeship.

Axel Süss welcomed the many guests with a speech and a company presentation. Then District Administrator Thomas Ebeling explained Gerresheimer’s significance as one of the region’s biggest employers and apprenticeship providers to the schoolchildren and their parents. Carmen Kullmann, Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH’s Training Officer, talked to everyone about the company’s apprenticeships and combined degree and apprenticeship programs. A tour of the on-site training center provided some first impressions and the young visitors were even able to try their hand at plastics processing. The current Gerresheimer apprentices supported the event by setting up information stands for each of the apprenticeship programs. They were at the stands all day chatting to school leavers about the daily routine of being an apprentice, the opportunities that are available to them afterwards and entry requirements for the apprenticeship program.

As in previous years, there were a number of prizes up for grabs. A prize draw was held with a smartphone, two tickets for an FC Bayern home match, including coach trip, and five individual Funtickets from Prokart Raceland going to the lucky winners.

Gerresheimer Regensburg will be offering approximately 30 apprenticeships and combined degree & apprenticeship programs again in 2015. The closing date for applications is October 17, 2014.
