Production of components for a further Sanofi insulin pen
Düsseldorf, April 16, 2013. Gerresheimer has commenced production of components for another insulin pen. The production order comes from healthcare company Sanofi and Gerresheimer will be manufacturing the components for the disposable insulin pen at Medical Plastic Systems. Final assembly of the insulin pen will be performed by Sanofi at its Frankfurt facility. Gerresheimer’s Technical Competence Center in Wackersdorf (Germany) handled all aspects of the industrialization process for component production and serial production operations take place at the Gerresheimer plant in Horšovský Týn (Czech Republic).
“We cover the entire value chain for medical plastic systems, from product design to pharmaceutical assembly. The new Sanofi production order confirms our expertise and flexibility in the fast implementation of complex, collaborative customer projects,” explained Andreas Schütte, Member of the Gerresheimer AG Management Board.
Gerresheimer already manufactures a reusable insulin pen for Sanofi at its Pfreimd plant in Germany. Insulin pens are medical plastic systems in pen format that enable diabetes sufferers to reliably administer their regular insulin doses themselves in a virtually pain-free procedure. Diabetes treatment is gaining in significance with each passing year. According to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, there will be around 350 million diabetes sufferers in the world by the year 2030.
