GxGo! Tailor-made careers according to the studies with Gerresheimer

Düsseldorf, June 23, 2020. Gerresheimer offers students with a Master's degree a trainee program as an introduction to a future career. The trainees have a fixed core assignment in a plant and work in various plants and departments over a period of 18 months. Foreign assignments are also part of the program. With five new inquisitive and motivated young trainees the second generation is in the starting blocks. In the areas of quality, design, small batch production, HR and controlling, the colleagues begin their professional careers at our sites in Regensburg, Wackersdorf, Tettau and the head office.

"With our trainee program we systematically prepare young university graduates for a career with Gerresheimer. The training is cross-divisional and therefore opens up the possibility of better exploiting our synergies in the Group," says Alexander Eckert, Global Senior Vice President Human Resources.

Well qualified and networked for future tasks

During the 18-month trainee program, trainees are assigned to a business unit on a permanent basis. They have their core assignment in one of the Gerresheimer plants and are deployed in various plants and departments. The focus can be on the commercial, technical or sales area. After successful completion of the program, the trainees are familiar with Gerresheimer's corporate culture and organizational contexts and are well networked for their future tasks in the company. The trainee program is designed in such a way that it can be tailored to the individual interests of the candidate during its term. After all, it is often only through practical experience that it becomes clear what you are really enthusiastic about. The program is coordinated and organized from the company's headquarters in Düsseldorf together with the local human resources departments of the locations. The third trainee group will start in April 2021.

In May 2017 the first Gerresheimer trainees began their training. In the meantime the 2017 generation is firmly in the saddle at Gerresheimer in the various departments such as Sales, Marketing, Production, Board and Human Resources. All eight candidates have developed into valuable and competent colleagues. Here are a few examples:

Federica Fiorito was also one of the first participants in GxGo! "I was one of the lucky few to be included in the program," she says. After completing her Master's degree in Business and Innovation in Denmark, she began her training. "In the 18 months I have developed from scratch. From day one I was taught everything about the business and the products, and I was involved in meetings, events and daily activities with sales managers across Europe. In addition to plastic packaging, I also worked on projects at our glass factories in Kosamba, India, and in Vineland, New Jersey, where I spent three months working on strategic market analysis. This was a unique opportunity where I made strong connections in all Gx companies and internationally. Since March 2019, I have been working as Junior Marketing Intelligence Manager in Vaerloese and am currently working intensively in the areas of sustainability and product innovation in plastic packaging. Now I am determined to shape Gx growth through data analysis and sustainability - one of the key drivers of innovation".

“Since I was hired as technical support engineer, my main task is to create and approve measuring program for our plastic caps on our new Zeiss CMM (coordinate measuring machine). Otherwise I mostly give support on approval of our new molds with documentation, testing and measurements. Moreover I support Sales on new business case with investment and equipment needed to perform cost and price calculation on new customer specific demands, says Alexandre. In Chalon he started a three- year apprenticeship comparable with the German dual study program. He then went on to Boleslawiec in Poland and the German TCC in Wackersdorf. Shortly before the end of his apprenticeship, he learned about the new trainee program and obtained the last remaining vacant apprenticeship position in Vaerloese in Denmark. In addition to his technical knowledge, he gained experience in completely new areas, such as product registration or pharmaceutical regulations (Pharmacopeia). Alexandre sums up: "I enjoy working for Gerresheimer very much. He particularly emphasises the helpfulness of all colleagues and the good networking with his co-trainees. His personal highlight were the two joint project weeks of all trainees and their mentors in India in 2018, where they supported the Indian employees in the Tubular Glass plant in Kosamba.

Theo Hartler - global factory planning and digitization

For the first time Theo Hartler, who today works at Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH as Project Engineer - Injection Moulding Technology in the OPEX & FM Division, got a taste of Gerresheimer air as an intern. He later wrote his master's thesis in mechanical engineering at Gerresheimer, specialising in plastics technology. After successfully completing his Master's degree he finally returned to start his trainee training at Gerresheimer in Regensburg. His permanent area of work at that time was the associated Production Coordination Unit (today's OPEX & FM), a central unit which is responsible, among other things, for global factory planning with standards for production equipment, factory layout and intralogistics. During his three months in Vineland, USA, he worked in Controlling and became acquainted with the production environment of the Primary Packaging Glass Division. For him, as a specialist in plastics technology, this was exciting new territory. In addition to the global planning of machines, equipment and fittings, he is currently working intensively on the development of a digital production infrastructure for the automated recording and analysis of process data. "Machine networking and digital data management increase data quality and thus effectiveness and efficiency," says Theo Hartler. They are important elements of Smart Factory and therefore an immediate component in Gerresheimer's strategy process in the Formula D (digitalization) field.
